Detailed 7 Days Tour from Marrakech Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech, High Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate
We collect you from your Marrakech accommodation in the morning and travel south across the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through changing landscapes toward the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with stops chosen according to traffic, weather and visibility. Along the way, you see mountain villages, terraced hillsides and the dramatic transition from the greener Marrakech side of the range to the drier south.
The main visit is Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco’s famous fortified earthen settlement. You have time to walk through the ksar with a local guide if desired, learn how its architecture was adapted to the climate and enjoy the view from the upper levels. Continue to Ouarzazate for your first overnight. Depending on arrival time and your interests, a visit to Taourirt Kasbah or a film studio can be arranged.
Overnight: Ouarzazate in a selected riad or hotel. Dinner and breakfast are normally included.
Day 2: Ouarzazate, Skoura Oasis, Rose Valley and Dades
After breakfast, the route continues through Skoura Oasis, where palm groves and traditional kasbahs spread across the valley. We then follow the road through the Valley of Roses. The rose harvest takes place in spring, but the area’s villages, cultivated fields and small cooperatives are interesting throughout the year.
As you enter the Dades Valley, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. We stop at viewpoints and geological formations when conditions allow, without rushing you from one photo stop to another. The day ends near Dades Gorge, where you can relax before the desert journey.
Overnight: Dades Valley in a guesthouse or hotel. Dinner and breakfast are normally included.
Day 3: Dades Valley, Todra Gorge and Merzouga
Travel toward Tinghir and enter Todra Gorge, known for its high limestone walls and narrow valley. There is time for a short walk, photographs and a coffee stop. Continue through towns such as Erfoud and Rissani toward Merzouga, where the dunes of Erg Chebbi rise from the desert landscape.
Near the dunes, you meet the desert team and travel toward camp by camel or 4×4, depending on your preference and mobility. The camel ride is an experience rather than a race, and timing may be adjusted for heat, wind or seasonal daylight. At camp, enjoy dinner and the quiet of the Sahara. Music may be offered in the evening, while clear nights often provide excellent stargazing.
Overnight: Private tent in a selected Merzouga desert camp. Dinner and breakfast are included.
Day 4: Merzouga, Rissani, Draa Valley and Ouarzazate
Wake early if you would like to see sunrise over the dunes, then have breakfast before leaving camp. Return by camel or 4×4 and continue through the desert towns of the southeast. When the market is operating and timing works, Rissani can offer a glimpse of local commercial life beyond the tourist route.
The journey crosses open desert plateaus and reaches the Draa Valley, one of Morocco’s great palm-oasis landscapes. We pass villages and cultivated sections fed by the valley before reaching Ouarzazate. This is another substantial travel day, with comfort stops and lunch arranged along the route.
Overnight: Ouarzazate in a riad or hotel. Dinner and breakfast are normally included.
Day 5: Ouarzazate, Taliouine, Taroudant and Agadir
Today links southern Morocco with the Atlantic region. Travel west through Taznakht and the saffron-growing area around Taliouine. A cooperative visit may be possible, particularly when it fits the day’s schedule and the cooperative is open. Continue through Anti-Atlas landscapes toward Taroudant, a historic walled town sometimes described as a smaller, calmer relative of Marrakech.
After a lunch or refreshment stop, continue to Agadir. The rebuilt modern city feels very different from the kasbah valleys and desert villages visited earlier in the week. Enjoy a relaxed evening near the Atlantic after the long cross-country drive.
Overnight: Agadir in a hotel or riad selected for your preferred comfort level. Breakfast is normally included.
Day 6: Agadir, Paradise Valley Option and Essaouira
Leave Agadir and follow the Atlantic region toward Essaouira. Paradise Valley can be included as a detour when road conditions, daylight and your preferred pace allow. Water levels are seasonal, so swimming and waterfalls are never guaranteed. The valley remains attractive for its rocky scenery, palms and rural setting. Travelers who prefer a shorter driving day can skip the detour and spend more time along the coast or in Essaouira.
Continue north through argan countryside and coastal landscapes to Essaouira. After check-in, enjoy free time in the compact medina, walk beside the ramparts or visit the fishing harbour. Day 7: Essaouira and Return to Marrakech
Spend the morning enjoying Essaouira at an easy pace. You can explore the medina, browse craft shops, walk beside the harbour or simply have coffee near the sea. Unlike Marrakech and Fes, the historic centre is small and straightforward to explore.
Later, drive back to Marrakech through the argan-growing countryside. Stops at a reputable cooperative can be arranged when requested, without pressure to buy. After reading numerous reviews both on tripadvisor and the Internet we decided that we would book MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA 3 DAYS DESERT TOURS With Morkosh tours. Driver (I wish I recall his name but see in photo) was waiting for us at the airport and was very friendly pointing out places of interest on our journey to the Riad in the heart of Marrakech. Also made sure our suit cases were wheeled to the Riad from the city gates. After a couple of days of sightseeing including the Berbera village at Ourika Valley (a must see), we were picked up by Omar and started our journey to Merzouga. Some of the sites on the first day were: Ait Ben haddou, valley of the Roses, Skoura, 'El Kelaa des M'Gouna' and 'Boumalene Dades'. Driving through Ouarzazate was very scenic and beautiful, but the hotel we stayed on our first night was near Boumalene Dades was fantastic, with beautiful suite and stunning views over the gorge. On our 2nd day, we also visited Dades Gorge (a must see), Todra, Todra Gorge (amongst other interesting sites). We arrived at the Sahara desert at dusk and took a wonderful camel ride into the sunset to the nomad’s private encampment in the middle of the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Being out of season, we were the only guests that night and had a fantastic experience playing cards (yes cards lol), drums and castanets by the open fire under the stars (a must DO). This was the highlight of our trip!!! After taking the camel rides back in the sunrise we set off back to Marrakech via Draa valley and Atlas Mountins. Omar made some detours so that we could do additional sightseeing of our choice along the way so we didn’t get back at promised time, however, worth every minute! We stayed an additional 3 nights at the Riad and Omar picked us up and drove us to the airport. We would like to say a massive thank you to Youness who arranged the tour, driver for being so helpful and especially Omar whose versatility made our trip so memorable in a number of different ways!!
