Sahara Desert Adventure

Day 1: Marrakech to Dades Valley via Ait Benhaddou and Rose Valley

Your 3 day tour from Marrakech to Fes begins with a pick-up at 8am from your accommodation in Marrakech. We start the journey by crossing the Tizi N’Tichka Pass (7,500 ft), winding through the stunning High Atlas Mountains, passing through scenic Berber villages along the way. The first major stop is at the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, Morocco’s largest kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient fortress, featured in many Hollywood films, offers a glimpse into Morocco’s rich history. After lunch in the kasbah, the tour continues to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.”
From Ouarzazate, we drive along the Road of the Thousand Kasbahs, passing the famous Kalaat Mgouna, or Rose Valley, known for its annual Rose Festival held in May. We then arrive in Dades Valley, where you’ll enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a charming local hotel or riad with views overlooking the valley.

This spot is popular among climbers and offers spectacular views.
We continue through Erfoud and Rissani, where you will enjoy a traditional Berber pizza for lunch. Our journey then takes us to Merzouga, where your camel awaits. You’ll be welcomed with a refreshing glass of mint tea before beginning your camel trekking adventure through the Erg Chebbi dunes, some of the highest sand dunes in North Africa. I could not be happier with the service we received from Youness, owner of Morkosh Tours. Youness was punctual, knowledgeable and very, very accommodating. He knows the country inside and out, especially the south. We booked a 3 days all inclusive trip with him to Merzouga (More details at Morkosh.com 3 days Merzouga trip). Youness drove, explained history of sites, arranged for meals and hotel stay, accommodated every request we had plus some. I highly recommend using Morkosh.com for private trips and transportation. Youness really took all the hassle out of travelling which allowed to focus on enjoying the sites.

We had a 3 day tour with Omar from Fes to Merzouga then to Marrakech. Omar was a very good tour guide and showed us some of Morocco's best landscapes and culture. We enjoyed the tour very much from the camel ride and camping in the desert to staying at the beautiful peaceful Riad in Ourzazate. Morkosh Tours really chooses quality accommodations and food and showed a really great time. Thank you, Omar!

After reading numerous reviews both on tripadvisor and the Internet we decided that we would book MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA 3 DAYS DESERT TOURS With Morkosh tours.Driver (I wish I recall his name but see in photo) was waiting for us at the airport and was very friendly pointing out places of interest on our journey to the Riad in the heart of Marrakech. Also made sure our suit cases were wheeled to the Riad from the city gates. After a couple of days of sightseeing including the Berbera village at Ourika Valley (a must see), we were picked up by Omar and started our journey to Merzouga. Some of the sites on the first day were: Ait Ben haddou, valley of the Roses, Skoura, 'El Kelaa des M'Gouna' and 'Boumalene Dades'. Driving through Ouarzazate was very scenic and beautiful, but the hotel we stayed on our first night was near Boumalene Dades was fantastic, with beautiful suite and stunning views over the gorge. On our 2nd day, we also visited Dades Gorge (a must see), Todra, Todra Gorge (amongst other interesting sites). We arrived at the Sahara desert at dusk and took a wonderful camel ride into the sunset to the nomad’s private encampment in the middle of the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Being out of season, we were the only guests that night and had a fantastic experience playing cards (yes cards lol), drums and castanets by the open fire under the stars (a must DO). This was the highlight of our trip!!!After taking the camel rides back in the sunrise we set off back to Marrakech via Draa valley and Atlas Mountins. Omar made some detours so that we could do additional sightseeing of our choice along the way so we didn’t get back at promised time, however, worth every minute! We stayed an additional 3 nights at the Riad and Omar picked us up and drove us to the airport. We would like to say a massive thank you to Youness who arranged the tour, driver for being so helpful and especially Omar whose versatility made our trip so memorable in a number of different ways!!
