Marrakech Taxi Prices: Fares, Airport Taxis & Local Tips
Taxis are one of the easiest ways to get around Marrakech, but prices can sometimes confuse first-time visitors.
The official meter price and the price a tourist is actually asked to pay are not always the same. Some drivers use the meter without any problem, while others prefer to negotiate a fixed fare, especially around tourist areas.
I am a licensed Moroccan tour guide based in Marrakech, and these are realistic prices I would use when advising my own guests.

Marrakech Taxi Prices at a Glance
For normal trips inside Marrakech, these are realistic prices to keep in mind:

These are practical ranges rather than guaranteed fixed fares.
Traffic, your exact pickup and drop-off point, time of day and whether the driver uses the meter can all affect what you pay.
Petit Taxis in Marrakech
The small beige taxis you see everywhere in Marrakech are called petit taxis.
They are normally used for journeys inside the city and are the cheapest taxi option for one, two or three passengers.
A petit taxi can carry a maximum of three passengers.
If there are four or more people traveling together, you will normally need a larger vehicle, private transfer or van.
Should Marrakech Taxi Drivers Use the Meter?
Petit taxis have meters, and I recommend asking the driver to use it.
In reality, however, some Marrakech taxi drivers—especially around Jemaa el-Fna, hotels and popular tourist attractions—may refuse the meter and offer a fixed price instead.
If this happens, ask the price before getting into the taxi.
For an ordinary short journey, tourists are sometimes quoted much more than a local would normally pay.
If someone asks 70, 80 or 100 MAD for a simple short journey across central Marrakech, you normally have other options. You can negotiate, ask another driver, or use a ride-hailing app.
There is usually no reason to argue with the driver. If the price does not make sense, simply try the next taxi.
How Much Is a Short Taxi Ride in Marrakech?
A very short journey can cost around 10–30 MAD.
For the journeys most visitors make between the Medina, Gueliz, Majorelle Garden and the train station, a realistic fare is often around 30–50 MAD.
For example, I would normally tell a visitor to expect roughly 30–50 MAD between Jemaa el-Fna and Gueliz or between the Medina and Marrakech Train Station.
Remember that these are realistic tourist prices. A metered journey may sometimes be cheaper.
Marrakech Taxi Prices at Night
Taxi fares normally increase at night.
As a practical rule, expect approximately 50% more after 8 PM.
For example, a journey that might be around 30 MAD during the day could cost closer to 40–50 MAD at night.
Late at night, when there are fewer taxis available, some drivers may also try to negotiate a fixed price.
Marrakech Airport Taxi Prices
Taxis from Marrakech Menara Airport work differently from normal street taxis.
Marrakech Airport now uses the Kech Cab prepaid taxi system. Passengers arrange and pay for their taxi at the airport taxi desk and receive a voucher before going to the assigned vehicle. ONDA—the Moroccan airports authority.
For Marrakech Airport to the Medina or Gueliz, a realistic range is approximately:
Daytime: 100–150 MAD
After 8 PM: 150–200 MAD
The exact price can depend on the destination.
If you are staying inside the Medina, remember that many riads cannot be reached directly by car. Your taxi may need to leave you at the closest accessible gate or parking area.

Private Marrakech Airport Transfers

Taxi Apps in Marrakech
Ride-hailing apps are another option in Marrakech.
Apps currently used in the city include:
Uber, Bolt, inDrive, Careem and Heetch.
They can be useful when you want to see a price before accepting the ride or when street taxi drivers are asking too much.
Availability can vary depending on your location and the time of day, so I would not rely on an app as your only transport option.
Can a Taxi Take You Directly to Your Riad?
Not always.
This is one of the most important things for first-time visitors to understand about Marrakech.
Much of the old Medina consists of narrow pedestrian streets where cars cannot enter.
If your riad is deep inside the Medina, the taxi will take you to the closest accessible point. From there, you may need to walk for several minutes.
Before arriving, ask your riad which gate or drop-off point the driver should use.
Do not simply give the taxi driver the riad name and assume the vehicle can reach the door.

Carry Small Notes
Try to keep some 10 MAD and 20 MAD notes with you when using Marrakech taxis.
Paying a 20 or 30 MAD fare with a 200 MAD note can create unnecessary problems, especially if the driver says he does not have enough change.
Small cash also makes it much easier to pay the agreed fare and continue your journey.
Agree on the Fare Before You Leave
If the taxi driver is not using the meter, always agree on the fare before the taxi starts moving.
Do not wait until you arrive at the destination to ask how much the ride costs.
Something as simple as:
“How much to Gueliz?”
before entering the taxi can prevent most misunderstandings.
If the price sounds unreasonable, ask another driver.
Are Marrakech Taxis Safe?
For most visitors, taxis are a normal and convenient way to get around Marrakech.
The most common problems are usually about price rather than personal safety.
Visitors are more likely to experience an inflated fare, refusal to use the meter or confusion about the final drop-off point than any serious problem.
Knowing approximately what the journey should cost makes the experience much easier.
Taxi or Private Driver?
For short trips around Marrakech, a petit taxi normally makes the most sense.
For airport transfers, families, groups, luggage or longer excursions outside Marrakech, a private vehicle can be more comfortable.
A private driver also makes sense when you want several stops during the day rather than finding a new taxi each time.

Do not worry too much about finding the absolute cheapest possible taxi fare.
Knowing the general price range is more useful.
For most normal journeys inside Marrakech, think roughly 10–30 MAD for very short rides and around 30–50 MAD for many common tourist journeys.
Ask for the meter first. If the driver prefers a fixed price, agree on it before getting inside.
Carry small notes, know where your riad can actually be reached by car, and if a driver gives you a ridiculous price, simply take another taxi.
