I could not be happier with the service we received from Youness, owner of Morkosh Tours. Youness was punctual, knowledgeable and very, very accommodating. He knows the country inside and out, especially the south. We booked a 3 days all inclusive trip with him to Merzouga (More details at Morkosh.com 3 days Merzouga trip). Youness drove, explained history of sites, arranged for meals and hotel stay, accommodated every request we had plus some. I highly recommend using Morkosh.com for private trips and transportation. Youness really took all the hassle out of travelling which allowed to focus on enjoying the sites.
We had a 3 day tour with Omar from Fes to Merzouga then to Marrakech. Omar was a very good tour guide and showed us some of Morocco's best landscapes and culture. We enjoyed the tour very much from the camel ride and camping in the desert to staying at the beautiful peaceful Riad in Ourzazate. Morkosh Tours really chooses quality accommodations and food and showed a really great time. Thank you, Omar!
After reading numerous reviews both on tripadvisor and the Internet we decided that we would book MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA 3 DAYS DESERT TOURS With Morkosh tours. Driver (I wish I recall his name but see in photo) was waiting for us at the airport and was very friendly pointing out places of interest on our journey to the Riad in the heart of Marrakech. Also made sure our suit cases were wheeled to the Riad from the city gates. After a couple of days of sightseeing including the Berbera village at Ourika Valley (a must see), we were picked up by Omar and started our journey to Merzouga. Some of the sites on the first day were: Ait Ben haddou, valley of the Roses, Skoura, 'El Kelaa des M'Gouna' and 'Boumalene Dades'. Driving through Ouarzazate was very scenic and beautiful, but the hotel we stayed on our first night was near Boumalene Dades was fantastic, with beautiful suite and stunning views over the gorge. On our 2nd day, we also visited Dades Gorge (a must see), Todra, Todra Gorge (amongst other interesting sites). We arrived at the Sahara desert at dusk and took a wonderful camel ride into the sunset to the nomad’s private encampment in the middle of the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Being out of season, we were the only guests that night and had a fantastic experience playing cards (yes cards lol), drums and castanets by the open fire under the stars (a must DO). This was the highlight of our trip!!! After taking the camel rides back in the sunrise we set off back to Marrakech via Draa valley and Atlas Mountins. Omar made some detours so that we could do additional sightseeing of our choice along the way so we didn’t get back at promised time, however, worth every minute! We stayed an additional 3 nights at the Riad and Omar picked us up and drove us to the airport. We would like to say a massive thank you to Youness who arranged the tour, driver for being so helpful and especially Omar whose versatility made our trip so memorable in a number of different ways!!
Morocco Travel Information
Introduction to Morocco
Morocco is a Constitutional Monarchy with His Royal Highness King Mohammed VI in power since 1999. The monarchy provides heightened security through various branches of royal, military, tourism, and local police, making Morocco a safe country to travel to.
For women, it is wise to dress modestly. Avoid wearing clothes that are too short, low-cut, tight, or revealing. The literacy rate for women is under 50%, and overall unemployment is high. The educational system is currently old-fashioned, outdated, and conservative.
Morocco is a male-dominated society, especially in rural areas where you will notice men leading businesses and sitting at cafes. At the same time, women work inside the home or in the fields. Most Moroccans still live in the countryside. Morocco is a liberal Muslim nation but remains conservative in certain aspects. Many mosques with tall rectangular minarets are in every village, town, and city. The call to prayer can be heard five times daily, reminding practising Muslims to pray. Be respectful when passing by a mosque; you can peer in but do not enter. If prayer is in session, refrain from taking pictures.
Most Moroccan women do not wear the full black gown and veil. Instead, they either wear a long, colourful dress with a hood called a djellaba and a scarf covering their head or Western clothing. You will also see men wearing Djellabas but in more subdued colours. Family is very important to Moroccans and is often the main priority. Many families are large and include extended family members. The married couple may have their bedroom; otherwise, the whole family will sleep on couches that line the living room.
Greetings are very important. Always say hello when entering and goodbye when leaving. It is considered rude not to do so. Many Moroccans, especially in the countryside, do not like to be photographed, so ask permission before doing so.
Islam is the widely practiced religion in Morocco. It is a monotheistic religion based on the revelations and teachings of the Prophet Mohammed, dating back to the 7th century. Muslims believe that God revealed the holy book, the Qur’an, to Mohammed, completing the previous monotheistic faiths of Judaism and Christianity.
Ramadan is the Muslim holy month during which all practising Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and having sexual relations from sunrise to sunset. This observance purifies the body and soul and reminds Muslims of the plight of the poor. The fast is broken after the sunset prayer with a meal called “ftor” (breakfast), shared with family. The Islamic Calendar is a lunar-based calendar adopted by many Muslim nations. It is 11 days shorter than the Gregorian, solar-based calendar. In Morocco, most things follow the Gregorian calendar.
Morocco Geography
Morocco’s landscape is as diverse as its cultural heritage and language. Like the United States, Morocco features mountains, desert regions, beaches, and forests like California. The country’s north, around Chefchaouen, is home to the Rif Mountains, while the northern coast boasts a Mediterranean climate.
The middle section of Morocco is home to the Middle Atlas Mountains cedar forests. South of Marrakesh lies the High Atlas Mountains, which include the tallest peak in North Africa, Jbel (Mount) Toubkal, standing at 4,068 meters. These mountains act as a natural border, separating Morocco’s lush valleys and coastline from the harsher elements of the Sahara Desert.
This varied topography makes Morocco one of the most captivating countries in North Africa, offering a unique and memorable experience as you explore with our team on your Morocco vacation.

Money & Shopping
You can exchange money in most banks in major cities and towns, such as Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, Ouarzazate, Erfoud, Ifrane, Meknes, Fez, and Tangier. Credit cards are not widely accepted, except at big hotels, major department stores, supermarkets, and some highly touristy shops. However, you can withdraw funds from ATMs nationwide with a Visa or MasterCard debit card. Be sure to inform your bank that you’ll travel and know your PIN. Traveler’s checks are not usable in Morocco.
When shopping, you must bargain. The initial price quoted will often be doubled, tripled, or more. Be firm but friendly; state your price and haggle. If you disagree with a price, say thank you and walk away. You can shop around and compare prices, then return if you purchase.
However, if you bargain for an item, agree on a price, and decide not to buy it, you may offend many vendors. The best way to pay is in cash and local currency. Very few places have credit card machines, and many shop owners are unfamiliar with their use, which may result in multiple billings for a single purchase. There are ATMs (cash machines) available across the country.
Internet, Phone, Post, and Health
All the riads and hotels we use on our Morocco tour packages have WiFi available to clients at no additional cost. However, WiFi in every room is not guaranteed. Most often, WiFi is best in the public areas of a riad or hotel, such as in central courtyards. While the Internet in Morocco is readily available and reliable, it’s not always the case in every hotel. Travelling with your laptop or tablet is recommended and safe when stored in your room. Skype should work fine for you if you want to make calls at home.
Morocco uses a GSM network common in Europe and has good coverage throughout the country. If you would like to use your phone abroad, contact your phone provider to ensure that your mobile phone will work in Morocco. If you have an unlocked smartphone, you can purchase a SIM card in Morocco for 20-50 dh and have a local Moroccan number to make calls in the country and receive calls from abroad. We recommend Maroc Telecom for the best coverage and rates.
The country code of Morocco is +212 (00212). Morocco uses a 220-volt system with double pronged plugs common in Europe (France). Most personal electronic devices in the world (computers, tablets, and phones) are set up to accept 110-220 volts. Check your item before travelling.
Post offices can also be found in every major city or town but are sometimes hard to find. Stamp prices are reasonable and you can send packages via regular or express mail. Vendors can and will ship items for you internationally and are accustomed to doing so.
Every city and town has public hospitals, private clinics, pharmacies and dentists. Hospitals and some clinics are open 24 hours and 7 days a week, as are certain pharmacies. When looking for a pharmacy, look for the white sign with a green crescent moon. You can buy prescription medications and motion-sickness medicine without a doctor’s note. The price of medicine is inexpensive.

Is My Driver Also My Guide?
At Morkosh, we operate differently than most other tour operators in Morocco. Over the years, we have developed a balance between drivers and guides that works exceptionally well.
Your driver is more than just a driver; he is your tour host and confidant. Our drivers are some of the best in the country, many holding advanced English degrees. They are there to keep you safe on the roads, answer any cultural questions you might have, and act as a key to the local culture and regions you’ll be visiting.

In major cities like Fez and Marrakesh, you’ll have a certified city guide for at least one day to show you the ancient medinas. In other regions, you’ll meet our local, regional guides (sometimes called coordinators) who will take you into their villages, share their homes, and provide deep insights into their area.
This approach ensures you have expert guidance when needed and time for independent exploration when possible and worthwhile.
When is the best time to reserve packages for Morocco tours?
The optimal time to travel in Morocco is spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November) when the weather is moderate and well-suited for travelling.
Should I buy Insurance to Travel to Morocco?
In today’s world of travel, it’s wise to have travel insurance for your customized Morocco tours packages. We recommend purchasing cancellation, interruption, and medical insurance to cover you in case of any emergencies while you are travelling.

What is the Weather Like in Morocco?
Morocco is often described as “the cold country with the hot sun.” This saying reflects the country’s diverse climate, which varies significantly depending on the region and time of year.
Coastal Areas: Along the coast, temperatures range from 12°C (54°F) in the winter to 25°C (77°F) in the summer. The climate here is relatively mild and pleasant year-round.
Inland Areas: Inland temperatures can be much hotter, especially in cities like Marrakesh, which is known as Morocco’s hottest city. Summer temperatures in Marrakesh can soar up to 54°C (129°F).
Mountain Regions: In the High and Middle Atlas mountain ranges, temperatures can be much colder, with snow common in the winter and early spring.
Rain and Snow: Morocco is generally a dry country, but you can expect rain in the northern regions and snow in the mountains during winter.
When planning your trip, it’s essential to consider the varied climate to ensure you pack appropriately and plan activities that suit the weather conditions during your visit.
Can I Join a Group morocco tour package with You?
When we first started arranging Morocco tours packages, we offered group trips. However, we no longer provide scheduled group excursions. Occasionally, we can pair a solo traveller with another and encourage solo travellers to contact us, but these opportunities are rare.
It is possible if you’d like to travel as a single traveller, although it can be more expensive. We welcome solo travellers and have many who travel with us each year. If you’re interested, please get in touch with us to discuss the possibilities.
