What to do in Marrakech and & in its Outkirts

We have been designing travel experiences throughout Morocco since 2009, from our offices in Marrakech. With the proliferation of “lifestyle travel designers” online with “expert advice” on Marrakech, we needed to separate the wheat from the husks and compile a to-do list. and watch in Marrakech. Marrakesh. After all, your vacation doesn’t last forever and you want to make the most of it.

Some of the things to do in Marrakech below are quite popular and some of them are just hidden gems. In general, you should try to spend at least 2 full days in Marrakech if you are doing a private Morocco tour. Some of the experiences down were not available a years ago. Some of them always have been, but now it’s more about  how-to than  what-is.

JEMAA EL FNA SQUARE

It is probably the most popular thing to do in Marrakech, the Jemaa El Fna open-air market is the heart of the city. It is undeniable that the tourism and flooding during the day with the number of international tourists going in and out of the neighboring markets is still … unacceptable. After dark, the crowds that linger in the square are mostly locals from Marrakech, who come to entertain and eat at one of the hundreds of eateries (Food Stalls) late into the night.

Jemaa alFna Square is limited only by the streets and buildings surrounding it and the market square has been used as a public gathering place since the 12th century, when Marrakech became a bustling international capital. under the rule of the Almohad dynasty.

AGAFAY DESERT

Less than an hour’s drive from Marrakech is the rocky Agafay desert. Nothing grows here. No birds, no sign of animal life. Far beyond the snowy horizon of the High Atlas, but between the two there seemed to be only hills of death and indescribable gloom, ash-yellow more frozen than when they were covered with frost. Sometimes a herd of goats and a shepherd dash across the horizon, en route from their hamlet to the next oasis. Camels often wait by the dusty road. One or two camps have set up their white tents among the rock dunes. In places, the same solitude and majesty reign over the Sahara. The wide open landscape surrounded by the High Atlas mountains in the background makes this a great alternative to the Sahara for those who have too little time for the 9-hour drive each way.
