Wild Erg Chigaga Desert tour Itinerary

DAY 1 : Arrive Marrakesh (or Casablanca)

At Casablanca or Marrakech airport, the driver will be holding a placard with your name to take you to Riad, Marrakech. In case your flight arrives early, you’ll have time to immerse yourself in the cosmopolite Casablanca. Before the Medina’s tour the next day, this afternoon you may want to get yourself in the spirit of Marrakesh on a horse-drawn carriage, the Caleche, which is the most romantic way to see the city from behind the pink ochre walls. Tonight we will have dinner in a Romantic riad.

DAY 2 : Marrakech Medina & New Town Guided Tour

Full-day sightseeing tour in Marrakech to explore the Medina, souks, monuments, and Gardens. We will provide you with a guided tour of the `Pearl of the South` escorted by your driver and our professional local guide to see all its highlights:

The main square of Djemaa El Fna, the constant flow of show biz celebrities owning properties here, its massive foreign residents’ community or its geographical location, Marrakech is smaller, yet much more famous than its counterpart Fes.

There is no other Moroccan city that boasts such a demographic diversity: Arabs, Europeans, and Berbers have always blended with the Touareg populations north of Sahara and the Black Africans whose ancestors worked at the court of the Sultan in a city always known for being a passage point for caravans coming through its gates from the 4 corners of Africa.

Highlights include Bahia Palace, Koranic school Ben Yussef, Souks, Saadian Tombs, the legendary Hotel Mamounia, or the Majorelle Gardens (once the property of a certain Yves Saint Laurent).

DAY 3 : Telouet | Ait Ben Haddou | Ouarzazate | Skoura

Today’s route crosses the 2260 meter (7500 feet) high Tizi-N-Tichka Pass. This is a dizzying feat of engineering completed in 1936. Zigzag through the winding and desolate terrain of hairpins, but the gorgeous scenery makes it all worth it. With the camera ready, the driver can find a safe place to stop.

For those who want to explore the beaten road, Telouet creates an impressive stop on the back road to Ait Benhaddou. It is said that the ruins of the slave village still remain, but they do, and True itself is rapidly collapsing. The next sight is Ait Benhaddou. A walled city with traditional buildings made of mud and thatched roofs, you can feel the eerie history as you walk down the shaded streets between the crumbling walls. Of particular interest is its former grandeur.

The road then descends to Ouarzazate, the seat of the Grawi tribe, who charged tolls for those passing through the mountains on their way to and from Marrakesh. Salt is important to Glawi’s property, and once a large Jewish community lived nearby and oversaw the production of this valuable commodity. Next, drive to the oasis of Skoura in the valley of Kasbah. Here you can spend the afternoon in this quiet oasis before dinner is served.

DAY 4 : Dra Valley | Zagora | M’hamid | Erg Chigaga Desert

Depart Skoura this morning and drive south for 3 hours to the secluded village of M`hamid, where the paved road ends. Have lunch with a local family. Then begin the next part of your resting off-road journey in Morocco’s wildest Sahara region, The Sand Dunes of Erg Chigaga!

DAY 5 : Erg Chigaga Sand Dunes Sahara Desert

Infinitely rippling like a vast sea of sand, Erg Chigaga’s dramatic 300-meter-high dunes are tuned to fully absorb the desert experience. Other than the footsteps of trekking through the dunes, it rarely interferes with silence (it’s not as easy as your guide thinks). Learn about life in Morocco’s most rugged desert, a family of Amazighs nomads who live here.

DAY 6 : Lac Iriki | Foum Zguid | Taroudant

Get ready for today’s varied and difficult long drives. Drive off-road for three hours in the “badlands” of Erg Chigaga Dunes, past the bed of a 50km dry lake in Lak Iriki, which became famous for the Paris-Dakar Rally. At Foum Zguid, after lunch, you’ll pass through the UNESCO argan tree bio-reserve Anti Atlas and greet the good road to Taroudant, known as “Marrakech’s grandmother”, on the surrounding walls. It appears to have been temporarily used as the capital of the country by the Saadians dynasty in the 16th century before moving to Red City of Marrakesh.

DAY 7 :Tiznit | Aglou | Mirleft

Today, we turn our compass southwest to Mirleft, a pristine beach oasis in Morocco. Discover what the French have known for a long time in this eternally sunny paradise. Great beaches, long sunny days, and fun surf spots make this a hidden paradise.

DAY 8 : Sidi Ifni | Mirleft

At Mille, you can spend a relaxing day. One of the most interesting things to do here is a surfing lesson on Morocco’s Wild Beach. Activities are best arranged in advance and include surf camping and fishing. If you want to explore the area, there are oases and ruined fortresses nearby, and Sidi Ifni has stunning Spanish Art Deco architecture. If it happens to be there on Saturday morning, there is also a camel market in Guelmim.

DAY 9 : Agadir | Marrakesh

A lazy cruise along the coast, watching the sounds of the Atlantic waves. Pass by Agadir, Morocco’s largest seaside resort, which has been completely rebuilt since it was destroyed by the 1960 earthquake. Here you can stop by the Eco Lodge and ride a mountain bike. This is perfect for families. Then return to Marrakesh to enjoy the last night before departure.

DAY 10 : Depart from Marrakesh (or Casablanca)

Today, we say goodbye to each other after a 3 hours journey from Marrakech Mohamed V Casablanca airport. Hoping you enjoyed your Morocco Tour with us!

We hope you had a wonderful trip with our team as you flew out of Morocco today! If you are departing from Casablanca, book your flight in the afternoon. This will give you plenty of time to travel from Marrakech.
